This theiss aims at studying the relation between literary convention and poetics in the poetry of Angkhan Kalayanaphong and Naowarat Phongphaiboon in order to reveal the value of their works as texts on poetics. The study shows that Angkhan Kalayanaphong and Naowarat Phongphaiboon maintain the concept of beauty and poetic value of poetry from Thai literary convention as well as concretely express the philosophical aspects of literature which are literary perfection and spiritual beauty in their poetry about nature and the function of poetry. The continuity and creation of literary convention in their poetry reflect the concept of aesthetic value in form, content and literary techniques and spiritual value of poetry. The outstanding characteristic of modern Thai poetry found in Angkhan Kalayanaphong and Naowarat Phongphaiboon's works is the profound expression of content and message. The convention regarding the content reflects the influence of Buddhist ideas. This emphasizes the spiritual value of poetry in beautiful expression. In reading poetry, the readers are encouraged to consider and interpret the content didactically in order to understand the philosophy of life. The process of poetry creating and reading, therefore, enriches the mind of the author and the reader. The beauty of harmonious form and content exquisitely created is the concept of poetics inheritd in Thai literary convention. The knowledge of poetics from the classical literature not only inspires Angkhan Kalayanaphong and Naowarat Phongphaiboon to create their poetry but also makes their works masterpieces of modern Thai poetry which influence contemporary poets' works. As a result, the poetry of Angkhan Kalayanaphong and Naowarat Phongphaiboon are valued as texts on poetics. This value of poetry is an important concept long inherited in Thai literary philosophy.
