Although the elderly club and home for thwe aged are encountered as place to support long-term National Health Plan for the elderly, a nursing care delivery in such place is still considered to be a severe problem in Thailand. This exploratory study was undertaken to determine nursing care needs of the aged in elderly club and home for the aged. A sample were drawn by multistage sampling techniques. A set of nursing service and nursing management questionnaire was utilized on 149 female and 165 male elderly people in elderly club, while a set of physical and mental assessment was utilized on 140 female and 120 male elderly people living in different homes for the aged. The findings indicated that In elderly club : In regards to elderly response, sx counseling was named as need in term of nursing practice. On the other hand, ear examination, chest x-ray, physical check up for anemia, recording of elderly club attendance, and taking blood test for cholesterol, were named as needs in terms of nursing management. Chi-Square anayses revealed that, at .05 level, there were no statistically significant difference among location of elderly club in response to the four nursing activities--respet elderly as a community member, respect elderly as a senior citizen, citizen, nursing management for treatment of illness, and nursing management for hearng examination. In home for the aged : In regtards to interviewing and mental assessment, the major nursing care needs were identified as cognitive imparment found 36.93%), depressve (found 71.15%), self care deposit (found 19.23 %) and there were 19.0% of the chronicaly ill elderly people. in regards to elderly physical examinaton, the nursing care needs in term of personal hygiene were identified as nail (found 42.30%), Skin (found 32.38%) and hair (found 27.31%). The first three nursing care needs in term of physical deterioration and illness were identified as bone and joint (77.96 %), gum and teeth (75.76%), and urination (75.76%). There were no statistically significant differene at .05 of nursing care needs regardng to cognitive and mental status, ability of self care, personal hygiene, bone and joint, nervous system, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal system, of the elderly as classified by location of home for the aged. The problem for rendering nursing care in h ome for the aged were identified as there were none or a few of nurses, insufficient of health or well trained personnel, and limitation of resources. Implications : The study suggests that there are a great amount of nursing care need in elderly club and home for the aged. The findings would help nurse educators, as well as related government officers, in developing means and ways to solve the problems of delivgry nursing care in elderly club and home for the aged.
