การวิเคราะห์ในเชิงประวัติศาสตร์เรื่องการเมืองและการปกครอง ในรัชกาลพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฏเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว (พ.ศ. 2453-2463) / มัทนา เกษกมล = The historical analysis of politics and administration in the reign of King Rama VI (A.D. 1910-1925) / Mattana Gatkkamon
To analyze the politics and administra¬tion in the reign of King Rama VI. It is the writer'ร contention that although King Chulalongkorn had set the pace for political and administrative reforms in Siam by restructuring the aged old Ayuthya bureaucracy, this great reform was not carried out by King Vajiravudh. Political institutionalization, in real sense, did not take place under Rama VI's period while social forces continued to loom large until the Revolution of 1932. The study focuses on the role and behavior of King Vajiravudh who was simultaneously a ruling monarch and the nation1’s top poli¬tical leader. Vajiravudh was Siam's first King who was trained abroad, consequently his world view was partly influenced by western ideas and concepts. Although it is undeniable that he was also deeply interested in the Thai culture as shown in his several writ¬ings and speeches. King Vajiravudh was not unaware of the advent of western democratic sentiments among the Siamese educated elites however, he was caught between the need to meet growing demands for social change and popular participation on one hand, and, the burning desire to maintain the monarchical status quo on the other. This unresolved conflict, together with the worsening economic situations during his reign, had eventually led to the overthrowing of absolute monarchy in 1932.
