The study to investigate the distance from road without traffic noise annoyance was done by measuring noise level in three types of residential area classified as high-medium-and low-density residential areas. The data were collected at two sampling sites in each type of residential area. The noise level and traffic volume were measured at six main roads near to the sampling sites. The traffic volume and noise level data were used to validate FHWA noise prediction model. The equivalent noise level (L[subscript eq]) calculated by validated FHWA noise prediction model were used to calculate the degree of noise annoyance (L[subscript eq]-L[[subscript 90]) from traffic noise. It was found that the degree of noise annoyance in high-density residential area was higher than medium-and low-density residential areas. The distance from road without traffic noise annoyance is more than 400 meters for high-density residential area. In case of medium-and low-density residential areas, the distance should be more than 300 meters from main roads. The equation to calculate the distance from road without traffic noise annoyance was developed from calculated and measured noise data by Multiple Linear Regression Analysis as follow : Y = 1567.45 - 50.509(X[subscript 1]) + 21.67(X[subscript 2]) Where Y stands for distance from road without traffic noise annoyance ; m X[subscript 1] stands for hourly background noise as L[subscript 90] ; dB(A) X[subscript 2] stands for hourly traffic noise level as L[subscript eq] ; dB(A)
