To study the level of quality of life and predictive factors between acute and chronic major depression. The subject of this study include 217 major depressive patients who had attended the clinics at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Somdedjoaphaya, and Srithunya Hospital. The instruments were quality of life questionnaire (SF-36), Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression Thai version (HAM-D). Percentage, mean, standard deviation were determined. Chi-square test, Mann Whitney, correlation and multiple linear regression were used for statistical analysis. All of data were analyzed with SPSS program. The study revealed that the quality of life of 43 acute major depressive patients (mean score = 172.88) and 174 chronic major depressive patients (mean score = 220.43) were significantly no difference at p<0.05. The predictive factors to quality of life of acute major depressive patients were the severity of depressive symptoms and economic problem. (p<0.05) The predictive factors to quality of life of chronic major depressive patients were family problems, preiod of illness, severity of depression (HAM-D). (p<0.05).
