To study determinants of demand for domestic tourism and average expenditure of tourists from Bangkok. The study separately analyzes demand for domestic tourism of Bangkokian in different timeframes by using logit model and regression model to analyze the cross section data from the survey. Three hundred seventy two Bangkokian tourists were sampled in 1998. The findings from a logit model show that the important factors influencing Bangkokian's demand for domestic tourism include household's income and pattern of travelling. Household's income wil directly affect the demand for domestic tourism in positive relationship whereas the own arrangement is the most popular and significant pattern of travelling. The study on determinants of demand for domestic tourism in shorter timeframe show that these two factors become less significant while the season and the family size are more significant. The others factors, such as gender, age, education, and occupation do not have any significant effects on this demand. The findings from a regression model show that the important factors determining average expenditure of Bagnkokian tourists include the destination and household's income that affect the average expenditure in positive relationship. And the factors that affect average expenditure in negative relationship are age and sex. Even the household's income does not have an highly significant effect on the average expenditure as expected, it is still more significant than age and gender. The other factors are considered insignificant. This study could be helpful in formulation of a plan to boost domestic demand and average expenditure of Bangkokian tourists. The results of the study suggest that the target should include the high average household income group, the senior group, and the bureaucrat or public enterprise group.
