The purpose of this study was to compare Machiavellian personality, firstly, between college students and Buddhist practitioners, secondly, among college student groups, and finally, among Buddhist practitioner groups. A sample of 480 people was randomly selected from various groups, namely, Chulalongkorn University Engineering students, Ramathibodi nursing students, the Thai Red Gross Society nursing students, Maha Chulalongkorn and Maha Makut Rajvidayala Buddhist University students, the Thai Nun Institute members, and Sila observers of Santi-Asoke Buddha Satan. The last group was selected from members of age between 18-40 years old. The Machiavellian personality questionnaires used in this study were Richard Christie’s Mach IV and V, which had been translated into Thai by the researcher. The data were analyzed by using chi-square, contingency coefficient, one-way analysis of variance and Scheffe’s method. The findings were as follows: 1. The college students had higher Machiavellian personality than the Buddhist practitioners at the .01 significance level. 2. The Machiavellian personality of the engineering students and of the nursing students had no statistically significant difference. 3. The Machiavellian personality of the Buddhist university students and of the nuns was higher than that of the Sila observers of Santi-Asoke Buddha Satan at the .01 statistically significance level. However, the Machiavellian personality of the Buddhist university students and that of the nuns had no statistically significant difference.
