This study examines the relation between board characteristics and financial performance of Specialized Financial Institutions (SFIs) and Thai commercial banks. The study covers six SFIs and fourteen Thai commercial banks. The findings demonstrate a positive relation between board size and performance, and a positive relation between board independence and performance. I find a negative relation between board meeting frequency and performance. Banks at which the state (government) has a controlling ownership stake report a negative relation with financial performance.
