The objectives of this research were to study state, problems, and needs for self-development of elderly home-care volunteers and to compare their needs for self-development, and to propose guidelines for enhancing self-development of elderly home-care volunteers. This study was a survey research. The samples were selected based on purposive sampling from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Suphan Buri, and Phetburi provinces. The sample size was 753. Besides, 12 experts validated the draft guidelines for enhancing self-development of elderly home-care volunteers. Research instruments were interview forms for interviewing the suitability of appropriate and feasible draft guidelines.The results of this study could be summarized as follows evaluation forms: 1. In term of self-development state, the samples mostly gave a reason to become elderly home-care volunteers because they were happy to help elderly and had self-development because of applying knowledge and new practices and giving recommendations to elderly. They spent free time for self-development and took the training programs as a method for self-development. They learned the content of basic elderly care. Sub-district health promoting hospital was their learning source. Their problems and needs for self-development could be divided into four areas including motivation, promoting environment, self-development methods, and learning content. Four areas of the problems were evaluated at low levels. The most commonly found problem was motivation at a mean score of 2.8. Four areas of needs were evaluated at high levels. The most needed area was learning content with a mean score of 3.67. By comparing the needs for self-development, the samples differently needed four areas of self-development with a statistical significance level of .05 2. The guidelines for enhancing self-development of elderly home-care volunteers consisted of four areas. For motivation, welfare for volunteers should be promoted and volunteers with outstanding performance should be selected. For promoting environment, tools and equipment used for elderly care should be supported and a user-friendly and simple operational manual should be designed. Networks should be supported. Volunteer- elderly relationship building projects should be organized. For self-development methods, self-development should be promoted with various methods by focusing on real practices and learning from real situations. Monthly meeting should be organized to exchange knowledge. Learning centers should be provided for volunteer learning. Various trainings should be held. For learning content, the content should cover knowledge on elderly well-being by using modern and applicable content.
