The Power Plant Maintenance Business is a section under Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) which is responsible for conducting maintenance service for all power plants in Thailand. The section ensures country’s energy stability which is crucial part in the development of Thailand. Although EGAT Maintenance Business is the leader in this business, the market share in providing the service for small power producer (SPP) segment is only 27 percent. This shows that it still not be able to compete with other competitors in this segment.The purpose of this independent study is to develop a strategic plan for EGAT Maintenance Business in order to enhance the revenue and allow the business to better respond the needs of SPPs. This study analyzes both internal and external business environments, the power plant maintenance business, the competitor capabilities, and the needs of small power producers when requiring maintenance service. With all of the information, the SWOT analysis is used in developing the strategic plan.
According to the research, the service quality, standard of service, the outage duration control, and the prompt response for service are key requirements for most of small power producers. Based on the strengths of EGAT Maintenance Business that can provide all comprehensive services according to customers’ needs, the researcher has developed the new service plan called “Integrated Maintenance Services”. This plan will allows EGAT Maintenance Business to provide the service at required maintenance standard with lower operating cost which, in the long run, will increase customers’ satisfaction, competitive advantage, and sustainable profits for this business.
