SUMMARY
This paper studies the impact of internet banking on bank performance of ten Thai commercial banks. Financial data are collected from financial report in quarterly data for year 2012 – 2016 and the internet banking data are collected from Bank of Thailand (BOT) website. Three term of internet intensity (number of account, volume and value) are used as an indicators to measure the internet banking.
The study found that the internet banking intensity measured in term of volume can explain banks performance, bank will gain positive profitability when internet volume reach a threshold level otherwise, internet banking deteriorate banks’ profitability. To be noted that the impact does not show an economic significant to banks. Moreover, this study also provide furthered test impact on operating expense, staff expense, number of staff and fee income and results indicate some differences in details.
