The proposes of this quasi-experimental research were 1) to compare self-care behavior among school-age children with thalassemia before and after receiving the perceived selfefficacy promoting program and 2) to compare self-care behavior of school-age children with thalassemia between those who received the perceived self-efficacy promoting program and those who received only routine nursing care. The self-efficacy theory of Bandura (1997). The participants were school age children with thalassemia between 7-12 years of age who received treatment at the Maharat nakhon Si Thammarat hospital. They were divided into two groups: 25 for the control group and other 25 for the experimental group, by means of age, sex and characteristic of family matching. The control group received the conventional nursing care, while the experimental group received the perceived self-efficacy promoting program. The data collection instrument were the self-care behavior and perceived self-efficacy questionnaire, which was examined to ensure content validity and tested for reliability, with the outcomes of .84 and .78, respectively. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation, as well as t-test, were used to analyze the data. The major findings were as follows: 1. The self-care behavior score of school-age children with thalassemia after received the perceived self-efficacy promoting program was significantly higher than before receiving the program at a level of .05. 2. The self-care behavior score of school-age children with thalassemia who received the perceived self-efficacy promoting program was significantly higher than those who receiving the conventional nursing care at a level of .05.
