To study the landscape from historical maps focusing on hydro ecological characteristics. Bangmaemai and its surrounding areas in the district of Bang yai, Bang plama, Suphanburi province which possess unique hydro ecological characteristic of seasonal flooding every year was selected as a case study in order to study landscape elements and their relationships with hydro-ecological characteristics and dynamics. This study applied the methods of landscape characterization and classification of spatial data from historical maps. The thesis focused on the historical landscape data which represent historical landscape characteristics of the study area to study landscape structures in relation to hydro-ecological characteristics of the study area and to study the hydro-ecological dynamics and landscape changes overtime. This study built the layers of maps that represent different characteristics of hydro ecology. Also the building of composite maps from different layers display different landscape hydro-ecological characteristics to illustrate a clearer pictures of landscape hydro-ecological characteristics and to initiated the further hypothetical questions and assumptions for landscape architects to consider in order to plan and design landscape according to landscape hydro-ecological characteristics and dynamics.
