The purposes of this quasi-experimental research were: 1) to compare the suicidal risk behaviors of adolescents before and after received the family counseling program, and 2) to compare the suicidal risk behaviors of adolescents who received the family counseling program and those who received regular caring activities. Forty adolescence patients receiving services in inpatient department, Lopburi, who met the inclusion criteria, were matched pair and then randomly assigned to experimental group and control group, 20 subjects in each group. The experimental group received the family counseling program composed of 6 group activities to improve relevant skills including problem solving, communication, roles, affective responsiveness, affective involvement and behavior control. The control group received regular caring activities. Research instruments were: 1) the family counseling program, 2) The Suicidal Idea Scale, and 3) The Suicidal Behaviors Scale. All instruments were validated for content validity by 5 professional experts. The Chronbach’s alpha coefficient reliability of the two scales was both .81. The t-test was used in data analysis. Major findings were as follows: 1. The suicidal risk behaviors of adolescents who received the family counseling program was significantly lower than that before, at p .05 levels. 2. The suicidal risk behaviors of adolescents who received the family counseling program was significantly lower than those who received regular caring activities at p .05 levels.
