แนวทางการพัฒนารูปแบบสื่อใหม่สำหรับผู้พิการทางการมองเห็นในกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันวาย / อุบลศรี รัตนภพ = Development of new media forms for the visually-impaired in generation Y / Ubonsri Rattanapop
The objectives of this study were (1) to identify the conditions and patterns of new media presentation that the visually-impaired in generation Y exposure to, (2) to identify the need of the visually-impaired in generation Y regarding new media and (3) to propose development guidelines of new media forms that conform to the need of the visually-impaired in generation Y. By implementing a qualitative research method, the researcher conducted content analysis in 3 websites and combined with an in-depth interview with 6 academicians and experts. Moreover, the researcher conducted three focus group interviews with 4 representative visually-impaired in each group. The results indicated that nowadays, conditions and forms of new media’s presentation were not convenient for accessibility and utilization of visual disabilities person in generation Y. Although the contents conformed to the need of the visually-impaired in generation Y, the target group had limitation with accessibility and utilization of the new media. One was design with complex components, usage images that screen reader could not read and so on, another was screen reader program installed is neither quantitatively or qualitatively appropriate. Although the visually-impaired in generation Y had the need in accessibility and utilization like non visually-impaired, the existing problems had a negative influence on the visually-impaired in generation Y until the target group could not absolutely accessible and utilize the new media. Therefore development of new media pattern guideline that conform to the need of the visually-impaired in generation Y is adjustment of presentation with simplelization, adding tags of image description and adding audio files - - do not play the files automatically because the sound might disturb running of text-to-speech program. In addition, participants should develop more effective screen reader programs and text-to-speech programs and distribute installation of the programs thoroughly. The last of all and the most important, before developing the new media forms, everybody in society should realize about value and emphasis of the visually-impaired for continuously and sustainably carry forward development new media forms for the visually-impaired in generation Y.
