To compare 1) students’ science learning achievement before and after learning by using 5E learning cycle with argument mapping 2) students’ science learning achievement between experimental group, who learned science by using 5E learning cycle with argument mapping, and comparative groups, who learned science by using traditional instruction 3) students’ ability in applying knowledge before and after learning by using 5E learning cycle with argument mapping 4) students’ ability in applying knowledge between experimental and comparative groups. The samples were Mathayom Suksa Two students of Chitralada School in Academic Year 2009. These samples were divided into two groups: experimental group was assigned to learn science by using 5E learning cycle with argument mapping and comparative group was assigned to learn science by using traditional instruction. The research instruments were science learning achievement test and ability in applying knowledge test. The collected data were analyzed by means of arithmetic mean, percentage, standard deviation and t-test. The research findings were summarized as follows: 1. The experimental group’s posttest mean scores of science learning achievement were higher than pretest mean scores at the significance level of .05 2. The experimental group’s posttest mean scores of science learning achievement were higher than the comparative group at the significance level of .05 3. The experimental group’s posttest mean scores of ability in applying knowledge higher than pretest mean score at the significance level of .05 4. The experimental group’s posttest mean scores of ability in applying knowledge higher than the comparative group at the significance level of .05.
