To 1) study whether the Southern News Desk, Isara Institute performs the role of peace journalism; 2) study the development, news production process at the Southern News Desk, Isara Institute; 3) analyze content of news about the insurgency in three Southernmost provinces as presented in the website (www.isranews.org), and in three mainstream newspapers - Matichon, Khom Chad Leuk and Thai Rath using peace journalism concept as analytical framework; 4) to study the opinions of website users about the role of the website as peace journalism. According to the findings, the development of the Southern News Desk, Isara Institute can be divided into three periods - mutual learning, restructuring, extension of ideas. The Southern News Desk, Isara Institute clearly exhibits a role of peace journalism by providing space for non-violent news, insightful and well-rounded storytelling, with an aim to reduce prejudice and create better understanding about the area. Factors which were found to influence the websites peace journalism performance include professional skills, understanding about the situation in the South, co-operation received from other media, civic networks and authorities, as well as trust by the community. When analyzed with the peace journalism model, the reporting in Southern News Desk, Isara Institute’s news has been consistent with the peace journalism concept, distinctively from news in selected mainstream media. Thai Rath was found to have the least proportion of peace journalism reporting while Kom Chad Leuk and Mati Chon were found to be more supportive of peace journalism in their reporting by presenting news that would help resolve conflict. As for the users of the website, they were found to satisfactory with the website which they view as reliable and well-positioned to create understanding and resolve conflict in the three Southernmost provinces.
