Reaction of soybean oil unsaturated glycerides with sulfuric acid was carried out batchwisely at room temperature. Effects of reacting period, agitation speed, sulfuric acid concentrations and sulfuric acid to soybean oil ratio on conversion of sulfuric acid were investigated. For 30% sulfuric acid concentration, acid solution to oil ratio of 0.2, and agitation speed of 500 rpm, the equilibrium conversion of sulfuric acid was approximately 0.49%. The conversion of sulfuric acid for 30 min reaction period was improved from 0.4% to 1.4% by increasing the acid solution to oil ratio from 0.2 to 1.8. In addition, much more improvement of conversion was obtained by increase in the acid concentration to 70% but the oil product become dark.
