This research is aimed to examine the social, political, and cultural contexts presented in Shaw Brothers' Huangmei Opera Genre. These contexts were narrated via the narrative structure and the element of the film. Chinese Opera had an influence on the production in the aspect of characterization, structure of literature, and the sequence of the tale. This is basically a qualitative research consisting of content analysis of 12 films by Shaw Brothers' Huangmei Opera Genre film. The research found that the films reflected the context of Old Chinese identity based on society, politics, and culture which were relatively conservative to the tradition and relied on Confucian Taoist teachings. The patriarchy system found in Confucian Taoist teachings also paid an important role in a Chinese society. Besides those findings, Chinese society gave the priority on the family issues and paid respect to the elders. Apart from social context, the research revealed that the political context in the films illustrated the monarchy system and the decentralization. Therefore, it created the form of feudalism in the society. In the context of culture, Chinese society showed the superstition, ethics, and religious belief. All stated above, since ancient time to present day, the Confucian, Taoist and Buddhist ideals have a deep root in a Chinese society.
