To study the effect of Satir’s communication development activities on life satisfaction of student nurses. The hypotheses were that the posttest scores on life satisfaction of the experimental group would be higher than its pretest scores and the posttest scores on life satisfaction of the experimental group would be higher than posttest scores of the control group. The research design was the pretest posttest control group design with experimental group follow up, 3 weeks after the experiment. The sample included 22 student nurses from Royal Thai Navy College of Nursing, Bangkok who volunteered to participate. They were assigned to an experimental group of 11 persons, and a control group of 11 persons, on the basis of their preference and availability to attend. The experimental group participated in the group facilitated by the researcher for 8 sessions over a period of 19 hours in 3 weeks. The control group was not given any treatment during the experiment. The instrument used in this study was Satir’s communication development group developed from the Congruent Communication Program of Pirapat Thawinratna (2004) and Life Satisfaction Scale, based on Neugarten, et al. (1961)’s developed by researcher. The t-test was utilized for data analysis. The results are as follow : 1. The posttest scores on life satisfaction of the experimental group are higher than the posttest scores of the control group at the .05 level of significance. 2. The posttest scores on life satisfaction of the experimental group are higher than its posttest scores at the .001 level of significance. 3. The follow-up scores (3 weeks after the experiment) on life satisfaction of the experimental group does not yield significant difference comparing with the posttest scores.
