The purposes of this research were to study the effects of Buddhist personal growth and counseling group on hardiness of university students and to investigate psychological experiences concerning hardiness of the students who participated in the group, through quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data obtained through the quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. Twenty-six students from Nakhorn Ratchasima Rajabhat University whose scores below – 0.5SD on Personal View Survey were assigned to 2 experimental groups and 2 control groups each group comprising 6-7 participants. The experimental groups participated in Buddhist personal growth and counseling group for 6 sessions, a session of three to four hours, for 3 consecutive days, which made approximately 21 hours. During the pretest, posttest and 2-week follow-up study, all participants completed The Personal View Survey. A two-way ANOVA repeated measures, one-way ANOVA repeated measures and the t-test were used for data analysis. The qualitative data was obtained through the semi-structure interview with 5 participants from the experimental group, after the experiment. The major findings are as follows : 1. The posttest and 2-week follow-up scores on hardiness of the experimental group are significantly higher than its pretest scores (p<.001 and p<.01 consecutively). No differences on those scores are found between the posttest and follow-up data 2. The posttest and 2-week follow-up scores on hardiness of the experimental group are significantly higher than those scores of the control group (p<.001) 3. The Qualitative analysis of the data indicate that the group members perceive the beneficial effects of counseling. The positive interactions and warm and trusting relationships in the group. are experienced by the group members which contributing to their understanding, accepting, realizing the values of themselves and others and their issues and enable them to have more commitment, more self control and more acceptance of life challenges. These meaningful relationships facilitating by the group leader can be the initial factor enhancing the hardiness among the group members.
