The purposes of this research were 1) to study research utilization level and utilization pattern of graduate students with different individual, contextual and background factors 2) to develop and validate the 2 research utilization measurement models with the application of latent growth curve analysis : the measurement model of overall research utilization and the measurement model of overall research utilization adding 3 patterns of research utilization (direct, indirect and persuasive research utilization) 3) to develop and validate causal model and to determine the factors affecting research utilization of graduate students and test the model invariance across groups of graduate students with different institutions, graduate curriculum level and major of graduate students. The sample consisted of 478 graduate students selected by means of multi-stage sampling from 61 master and doctoral program in 15 departments of 2 governmental universities in Bangkok. The research instrument was self-response questionnaire consisting of 4 parts, all of which were developed by the researcher based on related literature review and were checked for quality according to the principle of measurement resulting in Conbrach’s alpha reliability of .949 and index of congruence of .969 for the whole instrument. Data collection were repeated measurement for 4 times on 5 steps of research process. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, analysis of variance, multivariate analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis were employed for data analysis using SPSS. Model validation and the test of model invariance between institutions, graduate curriculum levels and groups of major were employed using LISREL 8.72. The major finding were : 1) the research utilization levels of the graduate students were quite high in all 4 measurement (mean range of 3.513-3.657). The students indicated that 60.00-79.99 percent of total frequency in utilizing of overall knowledge were research utilization. The utilization frequencies were approximately equal for each step of research study and research process. The highest one was research method step, problem identification step whereas the lowest one was the research dissemination step. Classifying by pattern of research utilization revealed that the graduate student mostly utilized research directly, next was indirect utilization and the least was persuasive utilization. 2) the first model : latent growth curve multi-indicators measurement model with unequal disturbance variance was well fitted to the empirical data (X² = 95.508; p = .001; GFI = .981; AGFI = .925) whereas the 2nd model (latent growth curve multi-indicators measurement model with unequal disturbance variance adding 3 patterns of research utilization) was not fitted to the empirical data. 3) the causal model of research utilization was well fitted to the empirical data (X² = 324.130; p = .076; GFI = .953; AGFI = .933), the strongest positive causal factor was type of used research, next was the research utilization-based teaching. 4) the comparison of causal model of research utilization between groups of graduate students with different institute, graduate level and major revealed that the model was invariant in model form but variant in every parameter matrix in comparison between institute, and the model was variant in model form and parameter matrix in comparison between graduate level and major. The best invariant causal model in model form in comparison between institute was fitted to the empirical data (X² = 661.664, df = 610, p = .072, RMSEA = .019, GFI = .924, X² / df = 1.085).
