Methoxy cinnamic acid was grafted on silicone in order to make polymer with ultraviolet (UV) absorption property. When (6-7% aminopropylmethylsiloxane) dimethylsiloxane copolymer (AS) was used, [3-(p-methoxycinnamido)propyl](methyl) dimethylsiloxane copolymer (G-AS) was obtained. When compared to free octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), G-AS gives UV absorption profile similar to that of free OMC but with much lower skin permeation and better photostability property. When poly (methylhydrogensiloxane) (MUS) was used, poly [(methyl) (octyl) (methyl) (propyl- 4-methoxycinnamatesiloxane] (G-MHS) was obtained. This G-MHS also showed UVB absorption property with much lower skin permeation as compared to that of OMC. Moreover, G-MHS was more photostable than OMC.
