The purpose of this study is to understand the general conditions and changes of the physical, social and economic characteristics of Koh Kret (Kret Island), and to analyze the identity and its value. This research also studies the tourism situation and impacts of tourism development in order to propose guidelines for sustainable tourism development of this area. At present, most of the popular tourism resources are in Moo.1, 6 and 7 which are the sites for the Mon community and the place for pottery handicraft. Many tourists have both positive and negative impacts on Koh Kret, such as the increase of employment and expanding income, but these do not distribute to every people. Therefore many people have to migrate out and change their way of life. However tourism does make prosperity to Koh Kret such as renewal the cultural traditions by preservation and development of the environment. The findings from the study of the effect of tourism reveal that the community and the pottery product were effected in both positive and negative ways. There are also negative impacts from flood, addiction, etc. that trouble the community. Therefore we have to solve this problem while we also develop tourism in order to help and protect other communities with similar problems to Koh Kret. The way to sustain tourism development of Koh Kret are recommended as follows: 1. Develop both of present and new tourism areas. 2. Develop the infrastructure such as roads, piers, cleanness and also providing other facilities in the future. 3. Promote tourism and manage the standardization of products and service. 4. Encourage the participation of local people. 5. Set up a local organization to offer new tourism direction of Koh Kret. This research also suggests to limit the amount of tourists and continuously create income for the local people while Koh Kret's environment can be preserved according to the sustainable tourism developing principles.
