The objective of this thesis is to study word formation and characteristics of Thai coinage in philosophy of Philosophy Coinage Subcommittee, Law and Politics Divisio , Royal Institute. The study reveals that there are four steps in word formation : consideration of the philosophical meanings in the Western language, comparison of the used words in Thai , combination of the used word in Thai, and loan the Western words. First , Philosophy Coinage Subcommittee considers both formal meanings and meanings in usage. Second, Philosophy Coinage Subcommittee compares to the used words in Thai in two sources : 2493 B.E. Thai dictionary and philosophical documents written and printed before 2524 B.E. Third, Philosophy Coinage Subcommittee combines the used words in Thai in five ways : word formation, word compound in Thai, bound and/or free morpheme joining , word compound in Pali Sanskrit, and combination of phrase. Fourth, Philosophy Coinage Subcommittee loans the Western word in the way of Royal Institute. Thereare two concerned characteristics of Thai coinage in Philosophy : the most of Thai coinages in Philosophy were coined from the Pali Sanskrit languages and the most of Thai coinages in Philosophy have complex forms and meanings because they refer to the complicated and abstract meanings.
