Nakhonratchasima or Korat is one of the most important ancient towns of Thailand. It was established during the Ayutthaya era. Likewise, the Tau-Suranaree monument area, the western moat and wall of the ancient town, is a highly precious historical area for local people. This is because it is where the Tau-Suranaree monument, the central spirit of local people, is located. The main objective of this study of the development guidelines for Tau-Suranaree monument area, Nakhonratchasima Province is to explore appropriate methods to develop and improve this area and its surroundings. The study aims to provide proper sensible development guidelines for Tau-Suranaree monument area to increase its value in local people's perceptions. In addition, the study also intends to develop the urban environments to enhance the quality of the local people's lives. This study presents the consistent development guidelines for Tau-Suranaree monument area according to its role and importance, in order to solve the problems and promote the potentiality of this area in many perspective aspects. The presentments are as follow 1. The visual improvement guidelines for Tau-Suranaree monument square and the improvement guidelines for Tau-Suranaree monument area. 2. The improvement guidelines for urban landscape. 3. The development guidelines for tourism. 4. The guidelines for traffic improvement and control. 5. The development guidelines for urban transportation and commutation. 6. The conservation guidelines for urban historical elements. 7. The regulation guidelines of the future land use. The findings of this study can be practical for the city development planning; especially, for Nakhonratchasima municipality and related officials. Significance issues and physical development guidelines proposed in this study could be used as an alternative to be evaluated and compared with other studies in planning the city development. Lastly, a number of recommendations are presented in the last part of the report as a guideline for future studies that might fulfill this study.
