Existing signage in Thailand was created for the adults need of direction in public places. Signage designs in some places intended specifically for children, made use of the techique as for the adults. This use could affect child understanding and learning development. The purpose of this research is to find a guideline for effective signage design for Thai children and to establish a design standard by using "the relation of ideas" theory, which precribes the relationship between ideas and human reflection. Four main types of the signage designs were selected for this purpose which included public service, concession processing, activities and regulations. For those four signage designs, twenty-one pictures related to children's usage were selected. These pictures were screened by two child psychologists. Screened picture were then, interpreted in accordance with the relation of idea theory. The results were validated by the psychologists and the signage design specialists before building into test questions. Resulted test question later applied to 400 samples to detemine which is the most effective pucture for communicating the idea to the target group. Research results indicated that, depending on each type of signage, a communication by resemblance with posture signage was the most effective system for children, and gender did not effect child understanding. Futuremore, insome signage type, age did affact child understand posture signage and signs with more details better than 9-12 year old children. The research recommended that signage system design for Thai children should use design communication by resemblance with poster signae, bold straight and clear line, large icon and bright color such as warm tone.
