This paper aims to study the causes, process and impact of migration of the northeast peasants to Nakhonpathom municipality after the economic crisis through an application of qualitative research. The study was based on the number of 100 respondents by using the questionnaires that comprised of 3 parts i.e. personal data such as age, gender, education, domicile, occupation causes of migration of the Northeast peasants to Nakhonpathom Municipality include lack of job opportunity in the Northeast occupation, draught and reason to migrate living style of the residents of Nakhonpathom Municipality The study was conducted by asking open-ended questions to the selected 10 respondents as case studies. They represent a variety of occupations. Data collection was carried out from May 2000 to July 2000. The result indicated that causes of migration include economic and social factors for social factors, the problem ranged from broken home, debts arisen from gambling and divorce to the social value put on migrating for job opportunities in big city. This social value has been developed based on information provided through the social network of family members, relatives, friends and acquaintances. From an education perspective, the majority of migrants finished the primary education and are from poor and large families. Moreover, the respondents received support and assistance throughout the whole process of migration from their social networks. The study of migration process showed that most migrants had previous migration experience prior to migrating to Nakhonpathom Municipality such as moving to the town, district or neighboring areas. After migration to Nakhonpathom, occupations adopted include collecting used items for sales, wage labor, selling ice-cream, riding tricycle, etc. Therefore, the impact of economic crisis on migration was that the migration pattern became more longterm and more permanent. It also increased a number of homeless and new ways of earning.
