SUMMARY

This volume first provides an overview of the conceptual issues relating to the measurement of transnationalization, and discusses the advantages and drawbacks of different forms of measurement of this complex economic phenomenon. Then, using a variety of such measures, it analyzes trends in transnationalization for a number of economies. It documents that, while the overall degree of transnationalization of the global economy is increasing, the most important could be the decline in the contribution of developed countries to the transnationalization of the global economy, while the importance of developing countries as outward investors is increasing.
