วรรณยุกต์ภาษาไทยกรุงเทพฯ ที่พูดโดยคนไทย คนแต้จิ๋ว และคนซิกซ์ / วิไลลักษณ์ จูวราหะวงศ์ = Tones in Bangkok Thai spoken by the Thai, the Chao Zhou and the Sikhs / Wilailuck Chuwarahawong
The purpose of this research is to analyze and compare the tones of Bangkok Thai as spoken by the Thai, the Chao Zhou and the Sikhs. Tones in Bangkok Thai citation forms and connected speech in the speech of the Thai are used as the reference; the study of tones in the speech of the Chao Zhou and the Sikhs is the target of the work. The major aim is to find out to what extent the Thai tones in the speech of the Chao Zhou and the Sikhs differ from the tones in the speech of the native speakers of Bangkok Thai. The study focuses on two aspects: the tonal systems in citation form and the tonal characteristics in both citation forms and connected speech. The tones produced by thirty informants, the Thai, the Chao Zhou and the Sikhs have been analyzed. Each group consisted of ten speakers, five males and five females. The results show that the Thai tonal systems in the speech of the Thai, the Chao Zhou and the Sikhs are the same, but the tonal characteristics are different, less in citation form and more in connected speech. The tonal characteristics of Bangkok Thai in the speech of the native speakers indicate a difference from the traditional analysis: two static tones instead of three, and three dynamic tones instead of two. The Chao Zhou have some problems when they produce the mid tone and the low tone. The high tone causes a lot of problems for the Sikhs. Some interferences from the tones in their native languages can be detected. The deviations that cannot be explained may be due to "interlanguage" phenomena.
