SUMMARY

Abstract: This book presents the conclusions of a 1997 survey on medium-term trends in international investment. More than 300 leading transnational corporations and international experts from North America, Asia and Western Europe responded to the survey questionnaire. Additionally, 100 direct interviews were carried out around the world in order to receive more in-depth comments on the answers. The survey confirms the results of surveys from 1996 and 1995, which found that foreign direct investment will continue to surge over the medium term. At the centre of this development are the interests of firms in further internationalizing their production capacities and seeking new markets.
