To develop the quality of life indicators for rural people in Thailand using the eight years data 1992 to 1999 from Rural Development Data Center, Division of Rural Development, Ministry of Interior Affair. Firstly, the qualitative method is applied to conceptualize the quality of life for this group of this people. As the result of this concept mapping, the data are seperated to 3 components of 41 variables. Then the factor analysis is utilized using principal component method of extraction. The diagonal rotation with varimax method is used in order that the concept could be effectively extracted. It is found that, from the 3 extracted components, the quality of life indicators for rural people in Thailand consists of 14 indicators and 30 sub-indicators as follows : 1. Basic needs component consists of 5 indicators as follows : sufficiency of food indicator contains 3 sub-indicators ; Infant weight more than 3,000 grams, 0-5 year-old children without lack of nutrition, 6-14 year-old children with sufficient nutrition. Cleanness of food indicator contains 2 sub-indicators ; household with welled-cooked food, household with water hygiene. Hygienic of house indicator contains 1 sub-indicator ; household with lavatory hygiene. Iodine intake indicator contains 1 sub-indicator ; household with Iodine intake Child's immunity indicator contains 1 sub-indicator ; infant baby with mother's milk feed. 2. Spirits component consists of 3 indicators as follows : Morality indicator contains 3 sub-indicators ; household with monastery participating, non-alcoholic household, household cultural rites' attendance. Family and addiction indicator contains 2 sub-indicators ; non-smoking addiction household, warm-welcomed family. Gratitude indicator contains 1 sub-indicator ; elder aged people well-care. 3. Social and environment component consists of 6 indicators as follows :- Public health and fundamental education indicator contains 4 sub-indicators ; pregnant woman well-care, pregnant woman birth/after gave-birth well-care, elementary education for children. Economic and continuous education indicator contains 3 sub-indicators ; literate of 14-50 aged members of household, availability of further secondary education for children, household income greater than 20,000 baht per annum. Protection indicator contains 3 sub-indicators ; collaboration of social activities, houshold preservation for natural resources, household with protection for environment. Safety indicator contains 2 sub-indicators ; household with safety-life and assets. Family planning indicator contains 1 sub-indicator ; spouse with birth-control.
