To Study social and cultural motivations and factors which have effects on parental child abuse behaviors in Bangkok Metropolis. The population under this study consists of 8 parents who committed child abuses, which violate the Criminal Law, Section 2 : Crimes relating to human life and body, confessed as charged, convicted and imprisoned in Bangkok Metropolis. They belong to the families with net incomes lower than 15,000 Baht per month and have 2 children or more. The abused children are their own blood descendents. The methodology used in this study comprises documentary research, anthropological field research, key informant interviewing technique and content analysis. The variables are grouped, named, classified and presented in thick description, the study results can be concluded as follows. 1) Most of child abuse parents are unemployed, divorced and have small size families. 2) Most of them are alcoholic drinkers, but few of them gamblers. Other problems such as narcotics usage and sexual promiscuity are found to be not conductive to parental child abuse behaviors. 3) Most of them had never been abused by any family members during their childhoods and have no prejudice against the genders of their children. 4) Most of them believe in parental authority in such a way that parents can commit child abuses, but few of them believe in the male appreciation value, which leads to female child abuse behaviors. 5) Most of them agree that parental child abuses are normal practices.
