To develop a support system of terrain analysis for determining the avenues of approach to the enemy area by using the common data of the cavalry and infantry including the digital map of the Survey Department as the database for studies. The researcher designs the system by using the data derived from the study the terrain analysis to determine the avenues of approach in the operation area. The system is divided into 7 phases which are : the preparation of data to be the database and the concerned data in terrain analysis in second phase for example the detailed information of the map and principles of the advancement. The third phase is the process of filing of disposition of units which leads to the integration of combat information, type of units, sizes and positions, into the system. The fourth phase is the illustration of the operation areas which shows the layout of unit dispositions, the boundary and outlook of the No-Go, Slow-Go terrain. The fifth phase shows the avenues and corridors which the system will create the corridors within the areas of operation. The sixth phase is the illustration of the possible avenues of approach from the corridors which received from the previous phase. This will help the unit's commander to select the best avenue of approach. The last phase is the developing of data used for analysis which are the disposition data and the data collecting from the reconnoissance to conform with the real situation. The researcher brings all the designs to develop the system on the microcomputer by using Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 to compile all the data concerned for terrain analysis and Visual Basic 6.0 Program including MapObjects 2.0a as the tools in developing the system. The testing of the system function finds that it can analyze all the data concerned by illustrating the corridors and avenues of approach on the overlay for determining of the unit advancement according to goal. This research will beneficial in assisting the planning process in combat situation more effectively.
