การเปลี่ยนแปลงสัญญะและรหัสของสถาปัตยกรรมและศิลปกรรมทางพุทธศาสนาในประเทศไทย / รังสรรค์ เจริญพันทวีสิน = The transformation of sign and code of Buddhist architecture and art in Thailand / Rangsan Charoenpuntaweesin
The purposes of this research are in three folds. Firstly to gain insight into the meanings of the sign of the architectures, that have been transformed, that the designers want to communicate to Buddhists in Thailand. Secondly, how Buddhists in Thailand interpret those signs. Thirdly, the influences of mass media to the designers and Buddhists in Thailand. The case studies are the Monastery of Salaloy temple, Nakorn Ratchasima province; Maha Dhamagaya Chedi of Wat Phra Dhamagaya, Pathum-Thanee province and Buddha images at the attitude of stepping on the earth of Wat Sanamchandhra, Chachoengsao province. Results show that meanings of the the sign of architectures in Buddhism that had been transformed are different from one case study to another. This is due to differences of context and the designers' purposes. The successfulness of communicating those meanings to Buddhists depends on the knowledge level of designers, information dissemination and faith of Buddhists to that temple. Receiving of the right meanings and interpretation that agree with the designers ideas are limited to Buddhists who are acquainted with those temples and got information from the designers. Mass media had made those temples welknown among Buddhists in Thailand and have strong influences on some of the Buddhists who do not usually go to the temples used as case studies. But mass media do not have direct influence on the designers. This research also found that the hidden purposes of the transformation of signs of architecture of Buddhists used as case studies are to create the uniqueness so that they can pull Buddhists to that temple and donate money for using in activities of the temples.
