Analyses the portrayal of masculinities contents and the interaction between men and women in the Thai movies which reflect the stereotypical perceptions of society on social values and gender ideologies. The twelve movies shown from 1998 to 1999 were selected for textual analysis. The results of this study reveal that movies portrayed masculinities in two categories: 1) The social mainstream traits, such as men should be strong, dominant and possess leadership; 2) avantgarde masculinities, such as the combination between the mainstream traits and the new stereotype (being sensitive, complicated and imperfect), and the weak portrayals. Furthermore, the analysis of interaction between men and women in the movies has shown the unequality of power. This kind of interaction is relevant to the relationship between men and women themselves in the society. The society values the power of males and their domination. Men are always portray as the leader and the stronger while women are always portray as the follower and the weaker. The research findings also imply that this interaction is based on the patriarchal society.
