Fuzzy Supervisory Cotrol System of a binary distillation column is studied in this thesis. Distillation process is one of the important processes in many industries, however, it has complex behavior, high nonlinearity and may be affected by many sources of fault. So, we consider in many aspects of the control system design problem to achieve a reliable control system and the ease for plant operators to use and maintain the system. Some important design aspects to be addressed are the design and tuning of the Fuzzy Supervisory Controller (FSC), the fault monitoring system, the user interface and the instruments interface and control. In the design of FSC, the well-known PI controllers are used as the main controllers with supervision from the FSCs. The FSCs monitor the situations of the system and use the predefined control laws to tune the parameters of the PI controllers. The real-time implementation shows satisfactory control results.
