Task-based learning with early community exposure : an education program to improve community orientation of medical students in Myanmar / Than Zaw Myint
This portfolio of thesis has attempted to deal with the concept of com m unity orientation of medical students in Myanmar. This thesis portfolio con sists of three components, namely, an essay on improving the community orientation of medical students in Myanmar, a proposal of Task- based learning with early community exposure: an educational program to improve the community orientation of medical students and data exercise on studying the attitudes of medical students towards addressing the health and related problems in the community. In essay part, although there is lack of universally accepted definition of concept of community orientation, an attempt was made to define that concept. The problem situation was elaborated with identification and discussion of causes and consequences. The possible areas to intervene w ere explored and one most feasible and logical area was identified to overcome the problem situation In proposal part, an innovative educational program was identified and applied for proposed intervention. The Task- based learning with early com m unity exposure is one of the innovative educational programs and found to be effective in improving the community orientation of medical students. A Quasi-experimental study was proposed for the assessment of this intervention. A data collection instrument was developed and used in the data exercise to study the attitudes of medical students towards addressing the health and related problems in the community. Some interesting literature about the issue are summarized and introduced in annotated bibliography part.
