แมลงศัตรูที่ทำลายอินทรีย์วัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติบางแห่ง ของประเทศไทย / วาสิฏฐี นานา = Insect pests of organic materials in some National Museums of Thailand / Vasittee Nana
A survey to obtain insect pests of museums was conducted in National Museums at Bangkok and Petchburi, National Gallery and National Library. Species classification and identification, habitat, nature of biodeterioration, biology of the pests and life cycle of Silverfish, Lepisma saccharina L. were studied. Twenty-two species of insects in 11 families from 6 orders were identified as pests. They were in the following orders:- Thysanura, Dictyoptera, Psocoptera, Lepidoptera, Isoptera and Coleoptera. Seven species, identified as important pests which caused serious damages in museums, were silverfish, Lepisma saccharina L,. Acrotelsa collaria (F.) and firebrat, Thermobia domestica (Pack.) (Thysanura:Lepismatidae); American cockroach, Periplaneta Americana L. (Dictyoptera:Blattidae); brown-banded cockroach, supella longipalpa F. (Dictyoptera:Blattellidae); book-worm beetle, Castrilus sp. (Coleoptera:Anobiidae); and black carpet beetle, Attagenus annulifer Cost. (Coleoptera:Dermestidae). Lepisma saccharina L. was cultured in control condition at 26-29 ℃ and 66-74% RH. Egg development lasted 30-40 days. The newly hatched nymphs were naked, but became clothed with scales at the third molt. The time required for development of the four nymph instars were 2-3, 7-10, 14 and 14 days, respectively, but after the fourth instar, molting occurred every month or one month and a half until it became adult. Larval development lasted 261 days. Unfertilized and fertilized females deposited about 5-15 and 50-70 eggs, respectively. The silver-fish, a long-life insect which attained frequently over 2 years, molted and continued to grow throughout its life.
