This thesis aims to study the Phya Wanon, monkey warriors' war dance patterns in the Khon performance. Three monkey warriors who held very important roles in the war dance were Sukreep, Hanuman, and Ongkot0 The basic sequence of training, their characteristics, and their stylistic fighting patterns were studied and analysed to find out the process of training Khon monkey and the fighting dance patterns of the three main warriors. This included the demons who were their counterparts. The findings of this research could be summed up as the followings the training of Khon monkeys should begin with the preliminary steps and gestures so as to enable the learners to dance correctly as monkey in the Khon performance and to be adhere to the standard patterns. As far as the war dance patterns were concerned, it was found that their dance gestures were similar, especially the challenging, the preparation, and the four principal fighting patterns» The difference may be found in the fourth fighting pattern which would be diversified according to the situation of the plot. The war dance gestures were systematically arranged according to a typical pattern Pad, first engagement and Jab, second engagement and withdraw for recharging, and Khuen Loi, mounting on one's adversary. Most of these war dance gestures emphasized the monkey lords' strength and agility.The Khon monkey warriors' war dance patterns consisted of the dance gestures which had to harmonize with those of the ogre lords. Therefore, orgres' war dances should be studied in order to serve as an inter-related text.
