Purpose of the Study The specific purposes of this research are as followed: 1. To study the expected and actual roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 as perceived by officers of the Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students. 2. To compare the difference among the perception of officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students on the expected and actual roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4. 3.To compare the difference between the expected and actual roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 as perceived by officers of The Department of Non-formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students. Hypotheses 1. The perception of officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students on the expected roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 are different. 2. The perception of officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students on the actual roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 are different. 3. The expected and actual roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 as perceived by each of the sample’s groups are different. Procedures The sample included officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students in Functional Education Level 3-4 in Bangkok Metropolis. Questionnaires were sent to a total of 1258 participants in this survey, and 1099 or 87.36 percent questionnaires were returned. The research instrument for this study was a questionnaire, constructed by the researcher. There were three forms: one for officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, one for both administrators and instructors, and one for adult students. Each form included two parts: The first part was concerned with personal information of the respondents. The second part asked for opinions of the respondents on the expected and actual roles of teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4. Data were analyzed by computing percentages, means, standard deviations and one-way analysis of variance. Differences between the various groups were tested by the Scheff’s – Method. Differences between the expected and actual roles were analyzed by using the t-test. Research Findings The research findings are as followed: 1. Officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors, and adult students expected that the teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 should give much importance on their three roles, the educational setting, the instructional evaluation, and the relationship with students. 2. Officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors, and adult students, in general, perceived that the performance’s rate of the teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 was as average. Officers perceived that the teachers provided educational activities at a low level, however administrators and instructors perceived that the teachers gave much importance on the relationship with students. 3. A comparison of the perception of officers of The Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors, and adult students on the expected roles of the teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4, showed significant differences on all aspects. In this case, adult students expected less than officers, administrators, and instructor on every teacher’s role 4. Comparison of the perception of officers of the Department of Non-Formal Education, administrators, instructors and adult students on the actual roles of the teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4, showed significant differences on all aspects. From officers’ point of view, the teachers performed every role less than what the administrators, instructors and adult students perceived. 5. Comparison of the expected and actual roles of the teachers in Functional Education Level 3-4 as perceived by each of the sample’s groups showed significant differences: the expected roles were higher rating than the actual roles on all aspects.
