Purposes of the Study: The purpose of this research was to survey the student expenses in private higher education institutions, to compare the differences between student expenses by sex, domicile and location of institutions and to study the students’ financial problems. Hypotheses of the Study: 1. The expenses of male and female students are different. 2. The expenses of student whose domiciles are in the province where the institutes are located and those who are not are different. 3. The expenses of the students in institutions in the central part and those in institutions in the other regions are different. Methodology and Procedures The samples consisted of 2,592 students in Private Higher Education Institutions. Questionnaires constructed by the researcher were sent to these subjects and 2,182 (84.18 percent) questionnaires were returned. The first part was concerned with students’ back ground and financial problems. The second part was concerned with student expenses included housing, food, transportation, books, clothes, the other expenses and tuition fees. Data were analyzed by compution percentage, mean and standard deviation. Differences between sex, domicile and location of institutions were analyzed through the t-test. Research Findings 1. The student expenses in Private Higher Education Institutions were on the average 30,344.17 Baht a year per head. Average student expenses in the various institutions are listed below in order from high to low: Assumption Business Administration College 35,836.34 Baht. Sripatum College, College of Commerce, Bangkok College, Payab College, Hua Chiew College, Krirk College and Business Administration 31,474.58 – 29,860.24 Baht. Siam Technical College, Knasawat College and Southeast Asia College 26,506.81 – 22,632.87 Baht. Saengtham College 12,631.68 Baht.
2. There were significant differences between male and female student expenses at the .01 level. 3. There were significant between the expenses of students whose domiciles were in province where the institutes were located and the expenses of those whose domiciles were not at the .01 level. 4. There were not significant differences between student expenses in the central part and the other parts of the country. 5. Most of the student had some financial problems for some months. They solved their problems by asking money from their parents and borrowing from their friends. Recommendations The institutions should realize that student personnel work is very important for students: student financial aid: scholarships, loans, student expenses and to develop the students. The student expenses in private higher Education Institutions are higher than the student expenses in public universities. The government should provide funds in the form of student scholarships, grants and loans for the students in private higher education institutions.
