การวิเคราะห์การอ้างถึงวารสารในเอกสารการสอนชุดวิชา ของมหาวิทยาลัยสุโขทัยธรรมาธิราช / นฤมล รักษาสุข = An analysis of journal citation in correspondence texts of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University / Narumol Ruksasuk
The main purpose of this analysis is to study the list of journals, frequency, subject, time span and language of cited journals in correspondence texts that are used in Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. This study also aims at comparing the cited journals in the correspondence texts with the journals in the Documentation and Information Center at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. The data used in this analysis were collected from either bibliographies or footnotes or reference books that were listed in 79 correspondence texts published between the first semester of 1980 academic year and the second semester of 1983 academic year by the Schools of Liberal Arts, Management Science, Law, Health Science, Economics, Home Economics, Political Science, and the School of Agricultural Extension and Co-Operatives. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows: There were 15,185 references cited in those 79 correspondence texts. The analysis further shows that there were 1,719 of the total 15,185 references from journals or equivalent to 11.32 per cent of the total references. 1,679 items or about 97.67 per cent of those journal references contained complete bibliographical descriptions that were usable in conducting this detailed analysis. In the study of cited journals by name and by language the analysis indicates that 284 titles are in Thai and 267 are in English, respectively. The Thai journal that has the highest frequent reference is the Royal Thai Gazette while the English journal is the journal of Medical Association of Thailand. According to the subject, the Economic subject has the highest reference or 24.06 per cent of the total reference journals. Besides, the study shows that the most recently published journals within the last 5 years, are most frequently cited and the ratio of frequency in using Thai to English journals, is 66.94 to 33.06. The results of the studying can be used as guidelines for serial librarians at the Documentation and Information Center, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University in developing working systems pertaining to selection, acquisition, and storage of journals so that they can better facilitate text writers.
