This thesis is a study of classifiers in Korat Thai spoken in Ban Bung Thap Prang, Tambol Krathok, Amphoe Chok Chai, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The main purpose is to find out what classifiers are used in the village, to analyze their meanings and to see whether the number and the use of classifiers vary with the age and occupation of the speakers. Componential analysis is an approach used in the analysis of the meanings of classifiers. The meaning of each of the classifiers is inferred from the nouns that the classifier occurs with and is shown on the form of a set of semantic components. The results of the analysis show that all of the classifiers can be divided into 10 main categories, which are differentiated by such features as animate, inanimate, body part, vehicle, round things, long things etc. As for the use of the classifiers, it is found that the number and the occurrences of the classifier vary with the age and occupation of the speakers. In addition, there are three significant factors which influence the use of classifiers: the speakers' different views of objects, change in Korat Thai itself and the affect of contact with Standard Thai.
