To investigate characteristics of Chulalongkorn University students in nine categories logical thinking, academic interest, knowledge application, language proficiency, manner, good taste, religious aspects, political concern, and socialization. Then, these characteristics are compared among four areas of study : Physical Science, Biological Science, Social Science, and Humanity. Procedures A descriptive method was used. The samplings of 550 were drawn from third year and fourth year students by Multi-Stage Random Sampling from 15 faculties of four areas of study. Questionairs were sent and 547 (99.45 percent) were returned. Analysis of data included percentage, mean, standard deviation, one - way analysis of variance, and Sheffe’s method. Research Findings 1. Characteristic of Chulalongkorn University students among four areas of study in nine categories : logical thinking, academic interest, knowledge application, language proficiency, manner, good taste, religious aspects, political concern, and socialization were found in the same in four areas of study as follows : the highest mean in manner (X-bar = 3.83) and the lowest in religious aspects (X-bar = 2.51) : Physical Science (X-bar = 3.85 and X-bar = 2.62) Biological Science (X-bar = 3.69 and X-bar = 2.39) Social Science (X-bar = 3.86 and X-bar = 2.52) Humanity (X-bar = 3.88 and X-bar = 2.43). Their opinions concerning the nine characteristics were found the highest mean in logical thinking for three areas : Physical Science (X-bar = 4.37) Biological Science (X-bar = 4.41) attd Social Science (X-bar = 4.33) but for Humanity "academic interest" (X-bar = 4.40) was the highest, the lowest mean in their opinions of the four areas was good taste (X-bar = 3.31) 2. The comparison of the four areas of study students were : 2.1 Logical thinking and Religious aspects No statistically different was found in this characteristic. 2.2 There was significantly different at .01 level in "academic interest" characteristic. Testing by Sheffe’s method, it was found that Physical Science had higher mean than Social Science. 2.3 There was statistically, different in knowledge-application at .01 level. Humanity differed from Biological Science and Social Science for Humanity obtained higher scores than the others.2.4 There was statistically different in language proficiency among the four areas. Biological Science differed from Physical Science, Biological Science differed from Humanity, Biological Science differed from Social Science, for Biological Science had the lowest scores among the four areas. 2.5 There was statistically different in manner level. Biological Science differed from Humanity, for Humanity had higher scores. 2.6 There was statistically different in good taste at .05 level. Biological Science differed from Humanity, for Humanity had the highest scores than the others. 2.7 There was statistically different in political concern at .01 level. Humanity differed from Social Science, for Social Science had higher scores than Humanity. 2.8 There was statistically, different in socialization at .01 level. Biological Science differed from Social Science and Humanity for Biological Science had the lowest scores than the others. 2.9 There was statistically different in opinions-concerning language proficiency at .01 level, for Biological Science differed from Social Science and Humanity. The opinions of Biological Science was lower than the two areas. Other opinions on the remaining items were not different. Recommendations: According to the nine characteristics searched in this study, the two characteristics political concern (X-bar = 2.51) and religious aspects (X-bar = 2.71) were found obtaining very low scores. Therefore, it is recommended that Chulalongkorn University academic administration should revise curriculum by including more religion and politics subjects so that student are well prepared for civic service and man resources for the society. There must be seminar programs concerning Universal Religions or Comparative Religions. Basic concept in Political Science for every student should be included. Courses relating to Religious Rite or Political Behaviors should be offered as elective subjects in general education. Furthermore, the student Affairs Office should set the policy and develop the meaningful student activities. Students should be encouraged to participate in ritual ceremonies for religions especially Buddhism. Public relations in student activities should be improved. For political concern characteristic, Political Club should be established in every faculty. The significant leading politicians various Political Parties should be invited to present their political views before the general election. In sub categories, it was found that the students rarely spoke, discuss or ask questions in the classroom (X-bar = 2.42). It is important for the teachers to seek for other method of teaching that opens more opportunity of students to participate in learning and teaching procedures. The instructions should implant ideas, positive attitude, responsible skills and democratic way of life in both academic assignments and student activities.
