Wage is an important matter which interests the employers, employees, and the government. Wage is not only the source of the employee’s income which determines his living but it also an important fixed cost or direct expenses of the employers. Frequently the employers decreased the cost by exploiting the workers for less pay. The government, therefore, has limited the minimum rate in order to guarantee the basic wage rate for the unskilled workers who influxed onto the labour marker so that they could live among the economic situations without difficulty. But under some circumstances, the adjustment of the minimum wage to suit the economic situations caused the employers to adjust more wages in other positions. Such adjustment effected the cost, as a result, the companies lost their profit. This thesis is mainly aimed to study the wage rate paid to the workers in construction business according to the skill levels; also study whether or not the employers in such business paid the unskilled workers legally. This thesis also includes the points of view of the employers about the factors which affect wages relied on labour skill. The data used for analyzing obtained through the interviews and some questionnaires were sent to 53 construction business employers, 62 engineers or technicians and 502 workers working in construction business. The outcome of the study serves hypothetically that the construction business employers paid the unskilled workers less than the determined minimum rate. The wage rate of the various workers, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled are as follow : unskilled workers are approximately paid 51.46 Baht per day which is less than the minimum wage rate 20.83% and the female’s wage rate is less than the male’s 11.61%. The approximate wage rate of carpenters, ironsmiths, welders, the plumbers, the painters and the electricians who are put into semi-skilled group is approximately paid 64.30-81.79 Baht per day. The skilled group is paid 79.55-106.40 and 107.94-145.36 Baht per day for the highly skilled ones. The wage rate of the female is less than the male’s in every level. It is obviously seen that the levels wage rate are separated in sex discrimination. The determine the wage rate in different skills, the employers considered the worth of job or the productivity of the employees, prevailing wage rate, profit, demand of labour, negotiation, cost of living, minimum wage rate, and necessitated these factors according to the skill levels.
