This study attempted to investigate the relationship between vote canvassers and candidates for the House of Representatives in Thai electoral system. Special attention was given to origin of vote canvassers, the relationship between vote canvassers and the candidates and how the vote canvassers are used in the election campaign. The study found that the candidates cannot send their campaign message to the constituents adequately due to 3 major factors, namely : 1. limited time of election campaigns. 2. high cost of election campaigns. 3. large size of electoral district and large number of constituents. Thus the candidate have to used community leaders as their campaign agents who are mostly Kamnun and Pooyaiban. The relationship between vote canvassers and the candidates holds a patron-client characteristic before and after the election. The vote canvassers use 2 methods in gaining votes, that is , their positions as opinion leaders, and offering rewards such as public utilities. However, a vote buying is rarely found.
