Purpose: The purpose of the research was to compare the learning achievement and retention of Prathom Suksa 5 students which were taught by simulation games and by teaching manual. Procedure: The lessons content consisted of 5 topics, included in the life experiences are, namely, [consumption], Thai occupations, basic law in daily life, communication and co-operative. The lessons were selected and reconstructed in the form of simulation games by the researcher. Instrument 1. Five simulation games were employed. They had been improved by 5 experts and tried out prior to the application. 2. Forty seven items of achievement test were developed. They had also been improved by the experts of 5 and tried out prior to the application. The tests considered to be at P = .20 - .78, D = .24 - .64 and 0.91 reliability. Sample : The sample consisted of 60 grade five students in Watthapood School Nakornpathom. The students were pre-tested and divided into two groups by means of matching the score’s approximation; 30 pairs of students were matched and simply randomized to form an experimental and a control group. The researcher taught the experimental group while the control group was taught by a classroom teacher who teaches a life experience subject. The teaching was conducted in the same period of time. Results: 1. The achievement of the students taught by simulation games and by teaching manual are not different. 2. The learning retention of the students taught by simulation games and by teaching manual are different.
