Higher education has had a role on the political development of Thailand since the change of the governing system in 1932. The results of the reform of higher education from the reign of King Rama V to King Rama VII was that a group of students who received higher education abroad caused the change of the government from monarchy to the system which the king is under constitution. The leaders of this change later became the political leaders of Thailand. All through the passing time, the political leaders realized the importance of higher education. They promoted and supported higher education in the way that it was not against their system of governing. Because of this reason and others such as political condition, governing system, society and the values of Thai society, higher education of Thailand since 1932 did not have the role on the political development in the real sense. If it did, it was in the form of theory. Most students who were the products of higher education were not interested and enthusiastic in politics. However, after 1971 some students interested in articipating in politics reacted to indicate that they wanted to take part in politics. Besides, the pressures from internal and external incidents caused, the students interested in politics to be the principals in demanding for participation in politics and the governing system. They fought against tyranny at that time and they were greatly supported by students and people in general. Thus, a great change of the political condition could be made on October 14, 1973. However, students' political enthusiasm was limited. Their enthusiams was in the form of being against tyranny which had oppressed us for a long time. It was not the enthusiasm which followed the process of orderly political training. Students' coming together before and after October 14, 1973 was the imitation of agroup of people's power collection more than considering the principles of democracy. The student leaders themselves, after the spread of democracy, had a tendency toomit the process of democracy and used "mass power" to solve problems. Therefore, it can be said that higher education of Thailand from 1932 - 1973 did not really have the role on its political development.
