สหรัฐอเมริกากับนโยบายเศรษฐกิจไทย : 1960-1970 / อุกฤษฎ์ ปัทมานันท์ = The United States of America and Thai Economic Policy (1960-1970) / Ukrist Pathmanand
The study of "the United States of America and the New Economic Policy (1960-1970)" shows us the conflicts between democratic and communist blocs which cause the confrontation between two super powers: the United States of America and the Soviet Union Communism penetrated into Europe and then expanded to the fringe of Asia. The consequences of this expansion were the Chinese revolution under the leadership of Mao Tse Tung in 1949, Korian War in 1950 and so on. Hence, the United States tried to conform its foreign policy to be more concerned about international issues instead of the former isolationism. This new policy concentrated in anti-communism activities. Because of the changes of the international situation the United States was pushed to play an important role in Thai policy-making procedures such as economic policy and political policy. Therefore, the Thai economic policy turned to response to the United States anti-communism activities as well as the United States economic interest. The domination of the United States on the Thai government was fully seen during the government of Sarit Thanarat. The domination was projected in the leader's ideology, national policy (First National Economic Plan), national economic planing unit (the National Economic and Social Development Board), the Board of Investment and the Budget Bureau. The effort to play domestic politic efficiently was one of the reasons that Sarit let the United States intervene in the Thai economic. From American support Sarit did not have only economic but also political power so that he could crush his political opponents, Rajakru clique, and also he was very well recognized by the people under his martial law and absolute regime.
